Over the past month or so i have decided to create a photo book of the Yorkshire coastline ranging from Saltburn-on-Sea to Spurn Point incorporating the most northerly and southerly points of the Yorkshire coastline and everywhere in between. The book will compromise of around 100 images of the coastline when completed, it is currently a work in process and aim to have it completed within a years time for publication.

Check back at a later date for more information on the booklet, there is also a feature on the main website containing information about the photo book.

Wasted Journey

Today i decided to go on another excursion to the coast at Thornwick Bay, East Yorkshire getting up at 3am and setting off at 4am, on arrival i decided not to actually go to Thornwick Bay itself but about half a mile further up the coast to a little cove. The path down the cove had slipped down the side of the hill due to a mudslide which made getting down the cove a little more fun considering the mud i had to go down was wet and slippy at the time. The path to the cove started at a little Bird & Reptile visitors centre at Thornwick Bay near Flamborough Head.
Unfortuanetly the weather was a complete let down on a day advertised by BBC Weather as 'Sunny Intervals' there is complete cloud cover and infact a little rain and no sign of sunny intervals at all accurate weather reporting as ever. The white balance on the camera (College borrowed Canon) 40D was playing up and no matter what white balance setting used almost ever image came out with a cast of blue. I wont be using the images from this shoot for sale or release just because i am not happy with the days activity and results as a whole, below is an image taken from today...

Visit to the coast

Last week i took two visit's to the coast on wednesday and sunday morning to catch the sunrise, this meant getting up at 3am both of the mornings and arriving at my chosen destination at 5:15am in time to catch the sunrise (wednesday 6:35am, sunday 6:22am). On wednesday i chose to visit Flamborough Head, East Yorkshire and on sunday morning visited Filey, North Yorkshire to get some waterscapes of the coastline.

Flamborough Head
On wednesday i got up at 3am to get ready to set off for the coast the equipment i took was a Canon 40D and Sigma 10-20mm wide angle lens borrowed from the Hull School of Art & Design stocks, the filters i chose to take were 2x ND8 Neutral Density filters. I set off for the coast at 4am and actually arrived at the destination at 5:15am in plenty of time to catch the sunrise at 6:35am. Parked up in the car park for an hour waiting for the sunrise to get closer in the pitch black it was quite an eary feeling beign parked under the lighthouse on an early morning in patch black with no wind and the 3 lamps of the lighthouse beaming light round the area. The weather wasnt brilliant in the way of cloud cover since there was a large amount of it on the day but that meant for some useable white balance. Stupidly i decided to wear an old pair of trainers for the shoot so i ended up getting redicously wet below the knee line. In total i spent around an hour at the location taking around 80 pictures of which i sifted around 3 to use as official images.

Filey Bay
Once again i got up at 3am to prepare for this shoot again using the Canon 40D borrowed from the college stores, this time i set off slightly later than planned at 4:15am and arriving at the location of 5:20am. The sun was due to rise at 6:22am so i began to walk out to the brigg from the town center at 5:30am. It took a good half hour to walk out across the beach to the brigg which was at low tide (6:30am) and get to the end of the brigg. As always walking across the brigg was quite slippery especially in welly boots this time which dont have a large amount of grip on them. I spent about an hour on the brigg taking shots till the card was full, i managed to get 1 useable shot from the shoot that i chose to use as an official.
